Digitisation of print heritage 2023-2026<\/h2>\n

Within the framework of the Ministry of Culture’s sectoral Digital Cultural Heritage Action Plan 2024-2029, the digitisation of printed heritage project will focus on increasing the digital volume and accessibility of cultural heritage material with high user interest, in order to encourage research into cultural heritage and promote the re-use and cross-use of digital content.<\/p>\n

Project objective:<\/h2>\n

To digitise, archive and make publicly available online 550 042 pages of Estonian journalistic heritage, including foreign Estonian newspapers, newspapers from the Soviet period and newspapers from the early period of restoration of independence. All the newspapers will be segmented, the texts will be indexed and all the material will be made available on the DIGAR portal. Data on digital publications will be made available as key data in a link data format and published in the RaRa digilab<\/a> and the Estonian data portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Project outcomes:<\/h2>\n

As a result of the project, the accessibility of cultural heritage will be improved and its preservation for future generations will be increased, despite crises in the world. The growing digital cultural heritage will enable the development of modern, user-friendly public digital services, thereby contributing to the achievement of the strategic objectives of the state and its spheres of government.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n\n

Digitisation of Cultural Heritage in 2018\u20132023<\/h2>\n

During the project, 1.5 million pages of national printed heritage, preserved in the Estonian Literary Museum, the National Library of Estonia, and the Estonian National Museum, were made available to the public.<\/p>\n

Estonian Printed Heritage Red List<\/h2>\n

The “Estonian Printed Heritage Red List” is a project that compiled a list of national printed works important for Estonian cultural memory. It is a list of publications that form the basis and uniqueness of national culture and that, due to their cultural value and endangerment, must be preserved with special care.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
